This species migrate to the north of Mexico. Males of this species are rather bright, with vivid greed coloring on the back and flanks, blue chin and throat, broad white eye stripe and white whiskers. Females are pale green with gray throat.

This species is the largest out of 17 hummers breeding in the USA. Adults reach the length of 5 inches, while the others are measured only 3-3.5 inches. This species is often aggressive and bold.
